Can you think of a time when you have compromised values in the past?
I know I have.
I recently heard a friend say something where I thought I could help. I didn’t speak up because I didn’t want to offend them.
I would say that the value I compromised was courage.
Principles are different than values.
A principle is a fundamental truth or proposition.
It serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.
Principles can provide purpose and shape your mission in life.
Principles like integrity and honesty are qualities that we likely all aspire to. They determine your character.
To develop your own set of principles:
Looking back through your life and your experiences. What have you learned from them? Which principles are most important to you?
Develop a stretch goal. A stretch goal is a long-term goal set high above your normal standards. It attracts exponential rewards, opportunities, and experience. Stretch goals are not expected for perfect achievement. They are set to inspire growth.
Are your principles in line with your stretch goal and how you are currently behaving? If not, see this article.
