How to structure an accountability partnership
An accountability partner is similar to a cast when you break your leg. We need healing and support when the body is under stress. When we set ambitious goals and we are stretching outside of our comfort zone, we are also under stress. We need help. With a solid structure and accountability, we can stay on track.
How to Find a Good Match
Find someone on the same wavelength as you. If you are ambitious you want someone who is also ambitious. It doesn’t matter if they are in the same industry.
The person you are working with needs to be trustworthy, you may be sharing vulnerabilities.
You need to determine how your partner wants to be held accountable to your goals, habits, and targets. Some may want to be called out and others may want more friendly encouragement.
Details
You can text in the AM or PM, compose an email daily, have a short 5-minute call each evening, have an in-person/zoom chat once a week, or mix these to whatever works best
Discuss the top 3-5 things you either did or did not do - No excuses and no explanation
The call is not a social call, it is to talk about how you performed, the goal is to:
Find out what is working and do more of it
Find what’s not and fix it
Report on each area of life, and determine these areas when you first start
When you first start, take notes on what you and your partner want to get done for the next week and stay accountable to it. You can stop taking notes when you have been accountable and have a successful track record.
