Why being in your comfort zone is killing you. Step out.
Since the beginning of 2020, we have all been in different types of COVID bubbles.
What we all likely had in common was a heightened sense of fear in some form.
My wife and I started planning a trip in 2021 for 2022 assuming COVID would be over.
It isn’t, but we decided to go for it. We went on a 6-month trip across Europe.
Our first main stop was the northwest countryside in France. We were set to watch Hudson the Tibetan Mastiff in exchange for free accommodation while his owners traveled.
Upon arrival, we spent 2 days with the owners before they left to get settled. During this time, we got to know them and their friends for 48 hours straight.
After a good deal of isolation for 2 years, it was overwhelming.
However, after those 2 days, I was overcome with gratitude and emotion. I forgot how amazing it was to connect with people and have new experiences.
I thought back to times when I had some of the most meaningful experiences.
They were almost always doing things out of my comfort zone—like starting to perform as a musician or taking that chance to speak with my wife, who I am enjoying this experience with.
Remember, it doesn’t have to be flashy.
One of the best ways to get out of your comfort zone is to make a connection with someone new during your day and see if there is any way you can help them.
Often helping them can be as simple as a genuine compliment or truly listening to what is going on with them.
I am sure you have heard the cliché saying, do one thing each day that scares you.
I would say, why limit yourself or quantity it?
Instead, dip your toes in the water as often as possible.
Watch a transformation happen.
